TREE DESCRIPTION

Kosipo trees reach heights of up to 50 meters, with straight, cylindrical trunks and a diameter of around 1.2 to 1.5 meters. The bark is thick and gray-brown, often peeling in patches. They are native to West and Central African rainforests.

WOOD DESCRIPTION

  • Color: Reddish-brown heartwood, with sapwood that is lighter and well-differentiated.
  • Grain: Interlocked, producing an attractive ribbon figure.
  • Texture: Medium to coarse with a moderate natural luster.

PROPERTY AND APPLICATION

Kosipo is suitable for staircases, banisters, flooring, and flat sawn veneers for doors and furniture. It is also used for decorative paneling and artistic wood-working . Transparent or clear varnish is recommended for surface treatment; optimal wood humidity is 12 – 14 percent.
